Carnival Tuesday

Carnival 2011 was eagerly awaited in Tobago – as always. But visitors to Scarborough arriving on Carnival Tuesday morning were disappointed at the empty spectacle which greeted them. The only mas band in attendance was ‘Happy Sailors Having Fun’, a small band led by George Leacock and Robert Marshall. But late afternoon was a different scene with Gloria Stoute and Associates’ band – ‘Against all Odds’, amongst others. With 35 years of experience backing her, veteran band leader Stoute produced a superb display of top-notch carnival pageantry. This years Carnival was marked by a number of exceptional quality mas bands which have been steadily growing over the years. In charge of the mas details of Tobago Carnival, The Tobago Festivals Commission expected 35 mas bands to be in contention for the final judging points.

The Bacolet Beach Club, as in Carnivals past, had an abundance of guests who had come to get the feel of Carnival in Tobago. Bookings had been made months in advance. The Bacolet Beach Club a beach resort hotel is an island icon where guests flock to watch Carnival and other Tobago festival events.
