Birds and Wildlife of Tobago

Tobago's crowning glory is its bird life.  The noisy Cocricos and Amazon green parrots are known to wake you up at dawn, as they call out to each other from the treetops.  At sunset, Mot Mots appear from the forest and Jacamars from their hillside burrows to fill your ears with their songs. Hummingbirds hover above the hibiscus, and there is always a rare white-tailed sabre-wing flying around, displaying its beauty. Other birds include the blue-backed manikin, striped owls and nightjars that emerge after dark. Several areas in Tobago have been selected as sanctuaries or protected reserves for these birds. They are run by the Forestry Section of the Island.

Tobago is also blessed with a magnificent plant, reptile and insect life.  If you're interested in the amazing ecology, found in large populations are spiders, termites,   centipedes, scorpions, earthworms, snails, bats, hermit crabs, bachac, snakes, and lizards. Apart from this, the overabundance of flowering plants, shrubs and ground vegetation includes- balisier, sardines, palm, trumpet tree, parrot apple, wild cocoa, maruba, devilwood, bowldish, galba, blue copper, wild manjack, euterpe spp, and the like.

Tobago gives its visitors some of their finest and endearing memories.  It is a cool, pleasant, relaxing place to be in, and offers several recreational opportunities for picnicking, hiking, bird-watching, photography, sight-seeing, art and nature study.  Every trip to the island is not just unwinding but educational, rewarding and inspirational.  You can choose from forests, mountains, gleaming sandy beaches and coral reefs. However, true Tobagan experience is staying at a resort like Bacolet Beach Club. This boutique hotel overlooks a private white sand beach and is located just 15 minutes from airport and a few miles from the capital. The resort’s main restaurant, Café Havana, has panoramic views of the bay and serves local and international fare. Bacolet Beach Club does not fail to exemplify the natural beauty of the Island.
